FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT KIND OF THERAPY DO YOU USE?
I practice Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Â It's part of the third wave of cognitive-behavioural therapies that developed after CBT. Â At the core of ACT, are four mindfulness-based processes that will help you change your relationship with your thoughts and feelings. Â Ultimately, mindfulness-based processes are leveraged to uncover your values that will lead you towards your goals.
DO YOU USE CBT?
Cognitive-behavioural therapy is seen by many as the gold standard to therapy. Â Although it is an effective treatment, it does not work for everyone. Â Sometimes, clinicians spend more time trying to "restructure cognitions", in other words, help change your thinking patterns, rather than allowing your thoughts to just be exactly that, words inside your head - no more, no less.
HOW LONG IS EACH THERAPY SESSION?
A clinical hour consists of a 50 minute psychotherapeutic session. Why 50 minutes? The remaining time allows me to complete my session notes that I can refer to later to better serve you. Session notes also allow me to plan an effective strategy for our next session so that you get the most out of therapy and yourself.
DO YOU OFFER A SLIDING SCALE RATE?
At this time, I do not offer a sliding scale. It is extremely difficult to discern and differentiate between clients who need relief and those that don't. At the risk of not offending anyone, I have decided to refrain from incorporating a sliding scale into my practice at this time.
